How Scholarships for Barra was born
It all started with a girl named Angela who couldn't afford high school. Upon discovering that nearly 40% of young people in the area dropped out of school for financial reasons, Linda Bello-Ruiz and Wilf Brousseau decided to help her.
Then Dave Marshall joined the group and with the support of friends in Barra, the dream grew: today Becas por Barra supports low-income students to finish high school and continue their education.
Thanks to local and foreign donors, each year more young people have the opportunity to continue their studies and build a better future for themselves and their community.

✨ You too can be part of this story.
Our Interns, our pride

Each young person who is part of Becas por Barra represents a story of effort, overcoming challenges, and hope.
Since 2015, more than forty students have taken this path, and most continue on to university or a professional career.
Their dedication is the best proof that investing in education transforms lives and communities.
My name is Alberto Valdovinos Pelayo, and I'm originally from Barra de Navidad. I study law at the Centro Universitario de la Costa Sur and currently have an outstanding GPA of 9.3. I live in Autlán with my brother, who is also a student, and I return to Barra on weekends to help with the family business. I've been part of the Becas Por Barra program since 2019, and it has been fundamental to my academic and personal development. I've actively participated in workshops and community events organized by the program, and I know how important it is to be present at each activity, as it's a way to set an example for the people in my community. This is my way of expressing my deep gratitude for the support I've received, which I consider key to my growth and to the future of Barra de Navidad.
